Drama - Part 1 - Shawn High

“Logan’s a good kid, he just doesn’t show it.” “What’s that supposed to mean?” “Recently, Logan’s been acting up, his grades have fallen, he’s been involved with fights, he’s skipping class…” “What the hell am I supposed to do?” “We’re going to have to expel your son from school.” “No! Why would you do that?” “This is a prime school, one of the best in the state. We can’t have him here, there’s other kids who would love to come here too.” “He has friends here! What is he going to do? What school will he go to?” “Well, you are zoned for Shawn High School.” ——————————————— “Fuck.” Logan said under his breath. “Bullshit.” He kicked a rock toward the bus stop. “The hell am I gonna do at Shawn.” There were kids there. Lots. About 7 or 8. “Big stop.” He told himself. It was only the second month of school, and he already had to switch schools for the 8th time in the last 5 years. Moving. Expelled. New Grades to attend. Logan looked at his watch. 6:10 “I got 5 minutes.” He said, “Lets make the most of it.” The kids at his bus stop were pretty cool. He met Stevan and Ian, football players, Parker, the coolest kid in school (as he was told by everyone else), Connor, Matt, Max, Tyler, and a girl, Alex. She was tall, but not taller than most of the guys, a bit shorter than he was, 5’5”. She had brown hair, light skin, overall to Logan, the most beautiful girl he’d ever seen. Ian pulled him aside. “Listen, Logan, right?” Logan nodded. “I see you checking out my girl.” The words rang in his head, my girl, my girl, my girl. “Sorry bro, I didn’t know.” “Catch you again, people will be talking about me whooping your ass. Got it?” Logan nodded again. He already has an enemy.

The bus. It brightened Logan’s day. He met a lot of people. Apparently, all of the popular kids lived in one area, took the same bus. Lucky Logan. On the bus he met everyone (his stop was the first). At the second stop he met Jillian, Dakota, another Gillian, Alisa, and Sierra. Cool people. Next he met Bryan and Lucca. After that Logan encountered Scott, Addie, Nick, and Ryan. The fourth stop had a lot of people, Ryan, Asher, Dillon, Kyla, Maddy, Kagin, and Josh. The next stop was the smallest, one person, Hailee. Finally, they arrived at the last stop where he met Austin and Alec, brothers. Time for school.

Home room was bustling with movement. He had a short teacher, Mrs. Bonelli. Logan was put in the back if the class, right next to Alex. “Great,” he thought, “Just great. At least Ian’s not in this class. That would be horrible.”

Around him sat more people, Nikko, Calley, Wyatt, Courtney, two Johns, Jesse, and Dallas. Steven, Connor, Max, Matt, Tyler, Gillian, Sierra, Scott, Dillon, Kyla, Asher, and Kagin were in his class too. What a mess this room must be when we talk. How can you get all of the outgoing, popular, talkative, and obnoxious kids in one class?

“I’d like you all to turn to your partner and say what you did over the weekend, to build friendship.” said Mrs. Bonelli. Logan turned towards Wyatt, but he was talking to Sage, another girl. The only other choice was Alex. “Are you OK?” she said, obviously noticing something was bothering Logan. “Did Ian tell you we were dating? He’s been saying that a lot, but we broke up a month ago.”

“Uhm, yeah, he told me to, “back off” from you.” “Don’t worry about it.” She said. “Ok, well, I don’t really know what we’re supposed to do here. I’ve been going to Private School so there’s only one class…” Logan remarked. “What’s your classes?” Alex asked. “Here, English, Spanish, Math, History, Science, and PE.” “Wow, I’m in all of those classes at the same time as you, I’ll show you around. The bell rang. “Come on.”

Ian wasn’t in any if his classes. The only time he saw him was lunch. He sat by Stevan, Ian, Connor, Alex, Jillian, and Kyla. Ian was across from him, Alex to his left, Connor to his right, Setvan across the left, and Jillian and Kyla across on the right. Ian glared at him all lunch, making sure he didn’t make a move on his ex. “I gotta go to the bathroom.” Ian said 20 minutes into the 1 hour of lunch. Now was his chance to talk to Alex. “So…” He said to her. “So…” She replied. She looked at him, smiling with her pearly white teeth and deep green eyes. Ian started to walk back, and Logan cleared his throat. Alex went back to her lunch. “What did I miss?” “What did you miss?” Stevan said sarcastically. They all laughed. Logan, half courageous and half nervous, slid his hand closer to Alex. It was dumb luck because she slid her hand over as well.
